Villarreal won the Europa League football tournament title by beating Manchester United 11–10 in a thrilling penalty shootout. United goalkeeper David De Gea failed to perform well in the penalty shootout. He could not stop the shot of any player of Villarreal and finally failed to score.
In the regular game, Gerard Moreno scored in the 29th minute for Villarreal in the set time to put his team ahead but Edinson Cavani scored the goal in the 55th minute. Both teams were tied 1–1 after regular time and overtime, followed by a shootout which was prolonged. In the end, the goalkeepers of both teams had to come to collect the penalty. Villarreal’s goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli was successful in scoring on this. After this, Rulli stopped Di Gea’s weak shot. After saving the goal, Rulli lay down on the field and the whole team reached him.
