Virgil van Dijk, the stopper of the English football champion Liverpool and the Dutch national team, will undergo surgery on his right knee after suffering an injury against Everton in Saturday’s city derby, his club confirmed on Sunday.
“Liverpool can confirm that Virgil van Dijk will go for knee surgery that was injured during Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Everton. The central defender’s ligaments were damaged after the start of Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the seventh minute of the game at Goodison Park,” Liverpool said.
Jurgen Klopp was forced to replace his best defensive player very early, and now the careless start of the Everton goalkeeper and the English national team angered Liverpool coach.
Liverpool has not announced how long the recovery of the 29-year-old Dutch national team player will take.
