Manchester City’s 21-match winning streak came to an end on Sunday when Manchester United defeated the Premier League leaders 2-0 in the Manchester derby.
Manchester United won the Manchester derby for the second time in a row at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw.
Luke Shaw was the unexpected scorer as the visitors doubled their lead in the 50th minute and Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty after 101 seconds after a sloppy foul by Gabriel Jesus.
Ederson came close to saving the Portuguese, but the goalkeeper could only palm Fernandes’ low attempt from the spot into the net.
To take charge of the game City recovered from an early setback, despite being flustered at falling behind for the first time in 20 league games.
City huffed and puffed but couldn’t find a way to break down United’s defence, helped by the fact that only five of their 21 shots were on goal. Though they seemed to be on track to end the season on top, they came up short against their opponents here.
