UEFA Super Cup: Chelsea beat Villarreal on penalties

UEFA Super Cup has their winners of the year 2021 after Chelsea beat Villarreal on 6-5 penalties in Belfast. The football match ended on 1-1 tie but a better performance of penalties booked the trophy for Chelsea

Ziyech took the lead in the 27th minute for the Blues and Gerard Moreno equalized in the 73rd. The European champions crowned a better game in the first half with a goal, Marcos Alonso found Havertz on the left wing with an excellent long ball, followed by a ground pass for Ziyech who was accurate from 10 meters.

Antonio Rudiger shot the ball very badly from his penalty area, so it returned to the danger zone very quickly and the Spanish team reached the equalizer after a big mistake by Chelsea defender. Then Gerard Moreno played a nice combination with Dio who left him the ball to kick with his heel, and Villarreal’s top scorer was relentless again.

The London team failed to “mine” the Villarreal bunker although the game was dominated by Chelsea. Hence, the winner was decided by the performance of penalties, and Chelsea reserve goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga grew into a hero. In the 119th minute coach Thomas Tuchel introduced him to the game, precisely because of his good “reading” of shots from the white spot. Kepa confirmed this by defending the shots of Mandi and Albiol. At Chelsea, the only unsuccessful was the first performer Havertz, but Kepa corrected his mistake.
