UEFA had launched a probe in Euro 2020 final chaos after many fans created ruckus entering the stadium without tickets and as a result, on Monday the governing body of football has announced a punishment. England has been given a two-game stadium ban, one of which will be suspended for two years as punishment for the public disturbance around Wembley Stadium during England’s Euro 2020 final football match defeat to Italy. With this England will be forced to play two games behind closed doors meaning no fans can attend the match.
UEFA also fined the English Football Association EUR 100,000 ($116,000) for “lack of order and discipline in and around the stadium”. Before the launch, many fans without tickets tried to force themselves into the stadium.
The English Football Association said in a statement on Monday that it accepted UEFA’s decision, adding that scenes like this “can never be repeated”. “We condemn the appalling behavior of those who created the scene of foul play in and around Wembley Stadium in the Euro 2020 final and we deeply regret that some of them were able to enter the stadium,” the statement said. “
“We are determined this can never be repeated, so we have launched an independent review led by Baroness Casey to report the circumstances involved. We continue to work with relevant authorities in support of their efforts to take action against those responsible and hold them accountable,” the statement concluded.
The spectacular event was the first major international football final that England reached in 1966. However, Italy emerged victorious after a victory on penalties.
