Tottenham outplayed Newcastle and Harry Kane builds a benchmark scoring 200th goal

To raise their qualification hopes in the Europa League, Tottenham Hotspur beat Newcastle United and Harry Kane has passed 200 club goals in his career.

At a Premier League match at St James’ Park, Jose Mourinho’s first win in his eighth attempt brings Spurs up to seventh.

When Son Heung-min drilled a low shot into the bottom corner moments after the drink break disrupted Newcastle’s dominance the visitors led in the first half.

When his header hit the post, Dwight Gayle nearly leveled and Matt Ritchie blasted an equalizer 11 minutes after the restart.

But the balance only lasted four minutes when Kane scored from the assist of replacement Steven Bergwijn from a deep cross.

The England captain scored 200th goal in 350 appearances, 184 for Spurs and the other 16 for Millwall, Leyton Orient, and Leicester loan clubs.

With another header, he got the 201st late after Erik Lamela’s shot parried by Martin Dubravka.

Their season is only petering out as speculation remains about their Saudi Arabian takeover, though it was an impressive performance from Newcastle, who managed 22 shots to eight from Spurs.
