On Wednesday UEFA website announced that Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Polish Robert Lewandowski (Bayern), and German Manuel Neuer (Bayern) were shortlisted for the footballer of the season.
In a ceremony that will also draw for the UEFA Champions League in Nyon on Thursday, October 1st the name of the winner will be announced and next day the best footballer of the UEFA Europa League will be announced.
In European football leagues, De Bruyne is a leading assistant with 20 assists and 13 goals scored in the Premier League. Lewandowski scored 55 goals in 47 games for Bayern, 15 of them in the Champions League. Since the Champions League title, Neuer has missed just one game on Bayern’s path, and has not conceded a goal in six games in the Champions League.
Other nominees for the season were Lionel Messi (Barcelona) and Neymar (PSG), who each received 53 votes, followed by Thomas Müller (Bayern) with 41 votes, Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain) with 39, and Thiago Alcántara. (Bayern) with 27, Joshua Kimmich (Bayern) with 26 and Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) with 25 votes.
In the category for the best coach Hansi Flick (Bayern), Juergen Klopp (Liverpool), and Julian Nagelsmann (RB Leipzig) were nominated.
Keylor Navas (Paris Saint-Germain), Manuel Neuer (Bayern) and Jan Oblak (Atlético de Madrid) are competing for the title of best goalkeeper, while David Alaba (Bayern), Alphonso Davies (Bayern) and Joshua Kimmich (Bayern).
De Bruyne, Thomas Müller (Bayern) and Thiago Alcântara (Bayern) are competing for the best midfielder, and Lewandowski, Mbappé (PSG), Neymar (PSG) for the striker. In the category of the best player in the European League, Éver Banega (Sevilla), Bruno Fernandes (Sporting CP / Manchester United) and Romelu Lukaku (Inter) were shortlisted.
Lucy Bronze, Pernille Harder and Wendie Renard were shortlisted for the best football player.
