UEFA Nations League came to an end with a winner – France, who stunned Spain by a 2-1 match score. France won the second-ever title of the football tournament which started in 2018. Following the UEFA Nations League clash against Italy at the Allianz Stadium for 1:2 football results, Real Madrid and Belgium international goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois have spoken out on the issues the player has to face due to their busy football calendar.
“It’s just a money game and we have to be honest about it. For UEFA, it’s extra money and extra game because it’s on TV. Of course, everyone wants to play but look at how both teams’ squads changed. If the teams had been in the final, there would have been other players. That just shows how many games we play,” the Courtois stated indicating on football calendar, ESPN reports.
“Next year we have a World Cup in November, we’ll have to play until the latter stages of June again. We will get injured but nobody cares about us, players. After a long season, you’ll have to play four games in the Nations League and get only a two-week holiday. They [FIFA] are against the Super League but they just do the same –put extra games, extra trophy, the Conference Cup [UEFA Conference League] or whatever the name is….It’s just the same.”
“They can be angry about teams wanting a Super League, but they don’t care about the players, they just care about their pockets. Now you hear they want to put a European Championship and a World Cup every year. When will we get a rest? Never? In the end, top players will get injured. We are not robots.”
