Spain’s preparations for the European Football Championship (Euro 2020) have suffered a setback, as its captain Sergio Busquets has been found positive for the coronavirus. Because of this, now he can be out of the tournament. Busquets will have to isolate for 10 days and his participation in the European Championships (Euro 2020) is doubtful.
Spain has to play its first match in Euro 2020 football tournament against Sweden in Seville on 14 June. Apart from this match of Busquet’s Group E, Spain is also set to be out of the second match against Poland in Seville on June 19. The Spanish Football Federation said on Sunday that the test of other players of the team for Covid-19 has come negative. The federation said that Busquet withdrew from the team’s training camp in Madrid after it was revealed that the test was positive.
The rescheduled UEFA Euro 2020 will begin on 11 June (12 June Indian time). A total of 24 teams will play 51 matches in this month-long competition. Each team will play three games in the group stages before the knockout rounds begin on 26 June. The UEFA Euro 2020 final will be played on 11 July (12 July IST) at Wembley Stadium in London.
The Euro Cup was to be held in 2020 last year, but due to the coronavirus epidemic, it had to be postponed for a year. This is the 16th edition of the tournament which started in 1960. The winning team will be given a prize money of Rs 3300 crore.
