Spain beat Switzerland in a penalty shootout

The level of excitement continues to rise in the knock-out rounds of EURO 2020. Spain defeated Switzerland in the first quarter-final of the tournament. Spain beat Switzerland in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a tie of 1-1. The Spanish team, considered very strong, was able to score only one goal in full time and the extra time and Switzerland also scored the same goal. After which the match went to the penalty shootout where the Spanish team won 3-1.

Spain started the match with a bang and Alba gave his team the lead in the 8th minute itself. Spain got a corner in the 8th minute where Alba made a quick kick from outside and the ball hit Zacharias and went into the goal. Spain led 1-0 after the first half but Switzerland retaliated in the second half.

Switzerland’s star player Shaqiri brought the team to the level. There was some misunderstanding between Spain defenders Laporte and Pau Torres and Shaqiri took advantage of it. He fired the ball into the goal post and brought his team to a 1-1 draw.

Spain and Switzerland’s match went to extra time after full time and both teams could score 1-1 goals. After this, the thrill of the penalty shoot-out started, where the Swiss team was shattered under pressure.

Spain had a very poor start in the penalty kick. Sergio Busquets missed the first penalty. Mario scored for the Swiss team and the team went ahead 1-0. However, after this, Dani Olmo brought the Swiss team on par. 

The Swiss team then came under pressure and Fabian missed to put the ball into the goal post. Spanish player Rodri also could not score, but after this Swiss player Manuel Akanji also could not score. Gerard Moreno scored a goal to give Spain a 2-1 lead. After this, Swiss player Ruben Vargas also could not score. In the end, Mikel Oyarzabal scored a goal to give Spain a 3-1 victory in the penalty shoot-out.
