England national team boss Gareth Southgate has commented on the team performance following the stunning 10-0 victory over San Marino in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. England qualified for World Cup to be played in Qatar in 2022 after crushing San Marino. Harry Kane became the hero of the football match netting 4 goals in a game out of which three went straight in a row.
Southgate told ITV, as per BBC football news, “The qualification was earned away in Budapest, Warsaw and Albania. I have to credit all our players and staff for a very good year. We cannot do anything about the level of opposition but the mentality and the way they applied themselves was terrific.”
Talking about Harry Kane Southgate said, “If I left Harry [Kane] on the pitch for another half an hour, we would have had Wayne Rooney’s family on the phone. He is a phenomenal goalscorer. We wanted to give him the chance tonight and he took it well”.
Southgate also lent few words for the outstanding England squad, “I haven’t really thought that far ahead, we have had 19 matches this season and there is so much to take in. This is a good opportunity to look at the last few months and what experience the younger players need before the World Cup.”
To recap, Harry Kane has registered 4 goals against San Marino last night leaving the pitch in the 63rd minute. For the national team, the Tottenham Hotspur striker now has 48 goals surpassing Jimmy Greaves with 44 accurate shots and equaling Gary Lineker sharing the third spot of all-time England goalscorers. Ballon d’Or winner and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton scored 49 international goals, second only to Wayne Rooney with 53.
