Hellas Verona win at home against Lazio for the first time in 8 years thanks to Giovanni Simeone’s four goals. Verona were looking to get back on track against Biancocelesti after AC Milan ended their four-game unbeaten run last week, with numerous opportunities to take the lead in the opening moments of the football match.
Before guiding a difficult header just wide of Pepe Reina’s goal Ivan Ilic blazed over from inside the box. It was Antonin Barak who came close but Reina denied his attempt as well. In the 30th minute, when Giovanni Simeone made no mistake in firing an excellent shot inside the right post, the hosting side’s persistence did eventually pay off. With an exquisite strike from outside the box Simeone then rounded off a superb first half, nestling in the top corner, doubling his side’s lead.
The visitors barely threatened in the first half, but it only took a minute into the second for Lazio to pull a goal back, with Ciro Immobile getting on the scoreboard. However, with Verona restoring their two-goal advantage in the 61st minute instead as Simeone completed a phenomenal hat-trick the visitors were unable to build on Immobile’s goal.
In the final 20 minutes, the ‘Biancocelesti’ did attempt to offer up a response, with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s header hitting the bar, before Montipo denied Patric and Luis Alberto. Apparently, Simeone hadn’t had his final word yet as the striker scored his fourth goal of the night.
In the Serie A table, Verona is now placed 11th with as many points after 9 games while Maurizio Sarri’s men are 8th with only 3 points ahead. Watch football highlights as Hellas Verona win against Lazio in the Serie A match.
