Shrewsbury Town failed to make a sensation against Southampton

The hosts scored a goal quickly and controlled the course of the match as Southampton FC confidently beat Shrewsbury Town 2:0 in the 1/32nd final of the FA Cup.

The hosts had a huge advantage from the first whistle and quickly went into the lead.

Dan N’Lundulu took advantage of a defensive lapse by Shrewsbury, which allowed the ball to fall under his feet in the penalty area. The striker opened the meeting with a flat shot and without thinking long.

In the second half, the Premier League team wanted to prove their superiority. They kicked into high gear and the visitors’ goalkeeper Matija Sarkić had to do a lot of work.

He managed to save his team from losing consecutive goals. First, he defended Jake Vokins’ shot, and then he saved Jack Stephens’ shot.

Then he got lucky

As his defensive partners cleared the ball from just inside the goal line he got lucky. However, the Saints scored their second goal in the 89th minute. James Ward-Prowse scored from a free-kick.

Southampton’s players got a well-deserved win and checked into the 1/16 finals of the FA Cup with peace of mind. Shrewsbury Town, a team from the third level of the competition, failed to make a sensation.
