Venezia claimed a priceless 3-2 victory over Roma at Stadio Pierluigi Penzo. When Mattia Aramu swung in a lovely free-kick the hosts got off to a dream start and in just 3rd minute of the football match, AC Milan loanee Mattia Caldara’s header nestled into the bottom corner. After some time when Roma was awarded a penalty after Tammy Abraham was clipped in the box, they appeared to have the chance to level.
However, after the VAR review, due to an offside in the build-up, the decision was overturned. Abraham then crashed an effort off the post before Jordan Veretout’s follow-up flew over the crossbar. Despite doing most of the defending, Paolo Zanetti’s men should have strengthened their position following chances for David Okereke and Sofian Kiyine, and they were punished twice in quick succession in the closing stages of the half.
Abraham received a cross from Shomurodov after Okereke had claimed for a penalty following a break upfield, and unleashed a powerful close-range shot into the bottom right corner to make it 2-1. After the half time break Roma continued to pile the pressure on but it was the home side that restored the parity when Aramu made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 65th minute.
Remarkably, for the first time this season, Venezia scored more than once at home. To be precise more than twice, as the winner came with 16 minutes remaining on the clock when Okereke found himself one-on-one with Patricio and put the ball into the back of the net to claim a memorable triumph, moving up to 14th Serie A place.
On the other hand, Jose Mourinho’s men have just one win in six in all competitions heading into the international break. Watch football highlights of Venezia victory over Roma.
