On a buyback option, Manchester United declined to consider the insistence of the La Liga club, and now Tottenham is expected to sign the Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilón for €30 m (£27.6 m).
The defender was keen to play football in the Champions League with United this season, but as soon as United explained their role on the buyback clause, the player’s representatives stepped up talks with Tottenham.
Reguilón has one cap for Spain and spent the last season on loan in Seville.
On a deal until June 2025 Spurs reached personal terms with the 23-year-old and approved a buy-back option of approximately € 45 million, although the actual amount would depend on the bonus add-ons included in the agreement. Real have also requested a clause to allow them to match any Tottenham offer received for the player.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the Manchester United manager, was keen on Reguilón competing at the left-back with Luke Shaw but his club was unable to pay € 30 m in advance; they wanted a contract for €20 m plus add-ons according to The Guardian.
