Sergio Ramos tested COVID-19 positive

Sergio Ramos, captain of the Spanish football club Real Madrid has been found to be suffering from coronavirus. The Spanish club confirmed on Tuesday that Sergio Ramos has tested COVID-19 positive.

Since early April due to a muscle injury, Ramos had been off the field, and it is expected that his recovery is to last for six weeks.

The 35-year-old has been plagued by injuries in 2020-21, making just 15 LaLiga appearances as a result of many absences. Ramos faced a new setback in a season he is sidelined for most of the time nursing his calf injury.

The club announced that the veteran center-back is now isolating after contracting COVID-19, but did not provide any information on whether he is experiencing symptoms or how long he will be unable to practice.

This news will have no impact on Zinedine Zidane’s selections as Ramos was already set to miss the rest of the month.

Due to this injury, he could not play in the Champions League quarter-final (first leg) with Liverpool. He also missed Real Madrid’s Saturday 2–1 win match against Barcelona in El Clasico.

The defender has already been ruled out from Real Madrid’s squad for Champions League return leg against Liverpool on April 15. He is also expected to miss football until the end of the month.

Since joining Real Madrid in 2005 from Sevilla, Ramos has played 670 competitive games for Spanish champions scoring 101 goals. With the contract set to expire in June his future at Real is uncertain.
