Scottish Premiership Match Result – St Mirren Won 2-1 over St Johnstone

Jim Goodwin’s St Mirren side moved to within a point of fourth place in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night. After another Scottish Premiership match result, St Mirren won 2-1 over St Johnstone with ease, yesterday.

The Paisley side are now unbeaten in five league games after Connor Ronan and Alex Greive goals earned them victory.

Callum Hendry had put the visitors ahead in the first-half with a retaken penalty. But the Perth side would slip to bottom after Dundee’s win against Hearts at Tynecastle.

The contest got off to a frenetic, end-to-end start which continued throughout the first-half.

The hosts had the better of the opening exchanges with Greive, Greg Kiltie and Jordan Jones coming close to scoring. The latter even forced a good save from goalkeeper Zander Clark.

On the other hand, Ali Crawford and Cammy MacPherson tried to hit back for St Johnstone. But Jak Alnwick – who was fantastic against Hibs at the weekend – repelled them comfortably.

That momentum swing paid off when Jamie McCart hauled Glenn Middleton to the deck, prompting David Dickinson to immediately decide. The referee pointed to the spot.

And Callum Hendry even sent Alnwick the wrong way. But Dickinson ordered him to retake the penalty shot as the ball was moving when Hendry struck. The St Johnstone striker kept his composure though, slotting an even better penalty into the opposite corner.

The hosts found a leveller before half-time when McCart apparently fouled Greive. The Kiwi striker wanted to take the penalty himself, but on-form Ronan grabbed the ball and dispatched the spot kick.

That goal buoyed St Mirren, who started the second-half superbly. In fact, an attack ended when Kiltie curled his cross to the back-post where Greive would slot home from close range. He capped off a fantastic month for the striker who made his international debut a few weeks ago.

Callum Davidson would make three changes in response, with Canadian striker Theo Bair coming on to make his debut. But these changes only slowed the game down and St Mirren saw out the second-half comfortably.
