Italian football manager Delio Rossi believes Jose Mourinho at Roma and Simone Inzaghi at Inter are the most likely Serie A coaches to be fired this season. With almost all of the major clubs changing management this summer has seen significant changes in the Italian top flight.
Former Fiorentina and Lazio boss Rossi replied when asked on TMW Radio who might be first on the chopping block. “Mourinho, certainly, as I know what it’s like to work in Rome…” was the response.
“I’d also say Inzaghi because it will not be easy for him at Inter. He’s picking up a squad that won the Scudetto and, compared to his predecessor Antonio Conte, he at the very least needs to win something,” he continued.
Jose Mourinho took over AS Roma in May after being sacked at Tottenham Hostpur. The Portuguese coach has signed a three-year contract with the Giallorossi. This marked his first return to Serie A since winning the Treble with Inter in 2010. Mourinho recently installed a drone and massive screen at Roma training ground to highlight players’ mistakes in real-time.
Lazio has a new coach as well, with Maurizio Sarri taking over from Inzaghi and bringing a complete tactical change from 3-5-2 to 4-3-3. Former Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi became in charge at Inter in 2021 since leaving Rome based Serie A club where he gave coaching for almost 11 years. He played at SS Lazio between 1999 to 2010 and began his coaching career at the same club taking over as head coach at the youth team.
“It won’t be easy, because I know Sarri’s methods and he needs time, being a so-called teacher of tactics. To make matters worse, during pre-season training he’ll mainly be working with players who are destined to leave, so there won’t be much time to drill the team,” Rossi added.
