Manchester United will host Villarreal at Old Trafford for the second round of the Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday night. Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United have some unfinished business against Villarreal. It is also noted that Cristiano Ronaldo has an underwhelming record against Villarreal as a Manchester United player.
Last season the Red Devils lost to the Yellow Submarine on penalties in the Europa League final football match last season. Following the UEL United will be looking for vengeance. But it isn’t just the Reds who have a point to prove against Unai Emery’s side. Interestingly, in his first spell at Old Trafford, Ronaldo has played against Villarreal four times as a United player, with the two teams meeting twice in 2005 and 2008. In all of those games, the Portuguese superstar appeared but he failed to score or win any of them.
All four games ended in a stalemate, and when you include the Europa League match, the two teams have only ever drawn in 90 minutes despite meeting five times. In the previous year’s final match Ronaldo did not participate as was Juventus player but this time Ronaldo would not want to miss any chance.
In order to help United recover from their Champions League opener loss to Young Boys, Ronaldo will be looking to change that statistic. He has a good chance of doing so as well, having amassed an impressive record against the Yellow Submarine during his time with Real Madrid.
In 15 La Liga appearances against Castellon, Cristiano Ronaldo scored 13 goals and provided five assists. On Wednesday night all eyes will be on Manchester United to see if Ronaldo can continue his hot streak and break his duck as a Red against Villarreal.
