In the form of out-of-contract Roma may already have found a substitute defender Jan Vertonghen for Chris Smalling when the Englishman departed.
A two-year contract with Vertonghen worth around € 3 million per season has been achieved by Roma adviser Franco Baldini, reported Corriere Dello Sport, via Roma Press.
Having played the previous 8 seasons at Tottenham, the Belgian is a free agent.
The 33-year-old have been courting for some time by Giallorossi who succeeded in swaying the player in entering the Italian capital team.
For Paulo Fonseca’s system, Roma views Vertonghen as an ideal reinforcement given the recent switch to a three-man defense.
