On Monday evening a Club record fifth win from their first seven top-flight outings came against Leeds United, thanks to a brace from Youri Tielemans and strikes from Harvey Barnes and Jamie Vardy.
Rodgers says his side’s performance was a delight to watch from the Elland Road technical area and the victory in Yorkshire lifted the Foxes up to second in the Premier League table.
“It was an outstanding team performance against a very good side,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. “We knew on the back of coming off a European game that this was going to be a test for us physically. Every aspect, tactically and physically, was very, very good. A great win.”
“I trust the squad and I trust the young players. I know that when I ask the players to go out and play for me, they give their very best.”
“I know that they’re going to be under stress physically, emotionally and tactically in the game, but it’s why I support them and why they produce so many great performances.”
“We’ve come to a tough place here. Leeds have had an eight-day period since they last played, but I thought physically we were good in the game and the performance delighted me.”
City raced into a two-goal lead in the first half before Stuart Dallas pulled one back for the hosts, but the visitors successfully repelled Leeds’ further advances and added to the scoreline to wrap up a 4-1 triumph.
“It’s something that we’ve become better at as we’ve worked more together, knowing that we were going to be under pressure,” said the manager. “Sometimes, teams will score. They might score to get the game closer; they might go in front.”
“We’re maturing all the time as a team and that’s pleasing to see because we had to defend them for a period of time – 15 minutes – strongly, but then we played ourselves back into the game again.”
