Manchester United had a victorious night in the Europa League semi-finals defeating Roma with a heavy win of 6-2 goals. Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes were heroes of the evening scoring a double goal each. The first goal of the match was scored by Bruno in the ninth minute but Lorenzo Pellegrini scored 1–1 on a penalty in the 15th minute. United awaits the return leg to reach the finals opposite Arsenal or Villareal. After the match, The Red Devils coach and players reacted to Manchester United win over Roma.
Solskjaer on the match
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, head coach of the Red Devils has recapitulated the results of the match against Roma. “I don’t think the job is done, but we did a good job. We played well, but we know that the opponent is strong. He scored two goals for us after the two chances we gave him. Against Ajax, Roma also had few chances,” said Solskjaer to BBC.
“We played very well in the second half. We converted most of our scoring chances today and showed our character and we did not lose our head. Maybe for 5-10 minutes at the end of the first half we were not at our best, but then we pulled ourselves together. Both goals were the result of childish mistakes, which should not be allowed at such a high level.”
Paul Pogba on the match
Midfielder Paul Pogba has summed up to BBC the match against Roma (6-2) in the Europa League semi-finals.
“The result is good, but the job is not done yet. We have to stay focused and play the return leg with the same spirit. In the first half, we had two mistakes. At half-time, we said to each other: ‘Let’s play simply and properly’. The head coach spoke out. We were all set to score as much as possible.”
“I just don’t need to go for the tackle. I don’t know how to do that and try to act like an Englishman but I need more practice, I need to practice to tackle without arms. I haven’t been lucky enough to earn many penalties for my team this season.”
Bruno Fernandes on the match
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has commented after the Europa League semi-final first leg.
“We started well, then we conceded two goals, but we kept our composure and concentration and in the end, we did what we do best. We accelerated, started creating chances and scoring,” Fernandes said to UEFA official website.
“Roma is a good team but we deserved what we got for our play in the second half. A four-goal advantage gives us a good chance of winning the face-off, but we are not looking beyond the return leg in Rome. It is not over yet.” “I feel at home here at United – it allows me to play my best game.”
