RB Leipzig received the green light to welcome fans for their Bundesliga match

Coronavirus spread since March brought a suspension to sports for quite a long time but later in June football was played behind the doors without the presence of spectators.

But later in September RB Leipzig can host up to 8,500 fans for their Bundesliga clash with Mainz.

RB Leipzig will be able to welcome fans back to its stadium for their game against Mainz on September 20.

To encourage fans to attend matches Ligue 1 is the only major domestic league since the coronavirus-enforced stoppage was first reinstated in Europe in May.

As Germany is curtailing the spread of the virus, Leipzig got permission to invite fans back in attendance for their home match against Mainz.

For now, Leipzig stadium can accommodate up to 8,500 fans, after a location-specific agreement with the city’s health department has been reached.

The decision follows the implementation of new measures in the Saxony region on Tuesday, although it depends on the continuing low infection rates in the area.

“It is great news for the team but above all for our fans,” said Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann according to BBC Sport.
