Premier League: Wolves score goalless draw with Chelsea

Chelsea dealt another blow after Wolverhampton Wanderers’ (Wolves) goalless draw at Molineux Stadium on Sunday, a game that was asked by the Premier League side to postpone before the start of the match. Chelsea is six points behind the leader Manchester City, after their midweek match against Everton on another disappointing afternoon as they created little chance and rarely troubled Wolves goalkeeper.

The home team worked hard to get off the middle and as a result, had a good chance of making a comeback in an attempt to lift the ball over keeper Daniel Podence. Unfortunately, the ball went right over the bar. Chelsea, who had only six players on the bench, including two goalkeepers after seven COVID-19 infections left their squad, called on the Premier League to postpone the football match.

Manager Thomas Tuchel said Chelsea was “angry” at the decision to play, which he said was “very difficult to understand”. Tuchel told Sky Sports, “I don’t care about the idea. I am happy with the performance, especially in the second half. The first half was a bit difficult for us, we had to move ahead in the game. Some players have had to adapt to the new positions. We are not lucky enough to win the game at the moment, but I am happy with the way we played.”

Wolves have scored just four goals for either side in their last seven Premier League games and this has been a game with yet another war and some clear opportunities. Christian Pulisic had a great chance to score another goal for Chelsea in the 83rd minute of the match, but he fired just above the crossbar.

It was a clear ambition of N`Golo Kante to use his ability to attack on the flank. Podence was given a gift! The referee suspiciously awarded him a penalty 27 minutes into the match, which was neatly discarded. Podence was the first to reach a corner kick, but his header was tipped for a corner by the visitors’ keeper.
