Portugal won the Nations League match with Cristiano scoring a century of goals

As Portugal outscored 10-man Sweden 2-0 on Tuesday in their Nations League A Group 3 game Cristiano Ronaldo rattled home a superb first-half free-kick to become only the second male player to score 100 international goals.

Just before halftime to join Ali Daei, who netted 109 times for Iran, Portugal’s captain scored on a century of goals with a dipping set-piece effort.

In early exchanges to Sweden’s backline, the 35-year-old was a constant threat holding on the last defender’s shoulder before charging forward to break the offside trap, but Sweden’s goalkeeper Robin Olsen was equal to the challenge.

That all changed when Gustav Svensson got his second yellow card and was sent packing just before half-time after a reckless challenge on Joao Moutinho on the edge of his own box.

Ronaldo stepped up and smashed a dipping attempt beyond Olsen’s desperate dive and just below the crossbar, as he celebrated with his teammates before breaking into a large grin.

Sweden failed to stop the visitors and Ronaldo scored with another curling, dipping effort in the 73rd minute, this time from open play, to leave himself just eight goals shy of Daei’s international scoring record.
