Pochettino blames PSG hectic schedule on losing Ligue 1

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino congratulated Lille after losing out on the Ligue 1 title and blames Paris Saint-Germain’s busy 2020-21 schedule. On the final day of the Ligue 1 season hosted on Sunday, PSG won 2-0 at Brest but Lille won the title with a 2-1 win away to Angers.

Former Tottenham manager Pochettino was left “sad and disappointed”, as the result ended PSG’s three-year streak of French champions. Pochettino cited PSG’s triumphs in the Trophee des Champions and Coupe de France, as well as their progress to the Champions League semi-finals after defeating Barcelona and holders Bayern Munich.

Pochettino blames PSG hectic schedule

Mauricio Pochettino, head coach of Paris Saint-Germain, while lamenting their hectic fixture schedule, expressed disappointment that his team did not win the Ligue 1 title.

“I think it’s important to put everything in context and to look at what happened in January,” Pochettino said post-game interview. “We arrived and had no time to work, but we were welcomed really well by the club and the players.”

“We were playing every three days and we made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League, beating Bayern Munich and Barcelona. We won the Trophee des Champions and the Coupe de Franc, which was important for the team.”

“But Paris Saint-Germain will always be disappointed when finishing in second. We need to use the experience for the future of the club and of course to change things.”

“It’s important for the club to improve and we believe that we can get better. We are going to work hard for that to happen.”

PSG played 57 games in a long season in which they had no time to recover after reaching the Champions League final last season, which they lost to Bayern.
