Manchester City ended their Premier League 2020-21 campaign with a five-goal win over Everton on Sunday. The club’s outgoing star Sergio Aguero came off the bench with just 25 minutes left in the game and scored a brace in favor of Pep Guardiola in the Premier League final. Speaking after the match, Guardiola could not hold back his tears as he described the Argentine forward’s contribution to his side’s success. Asked about the club’s challenges to replace Sergio Aguero, Guardiola said: “We can’t replace him, we can’t.”
After City’s win over Everton, Pep Guardiola in teary eyes said, “We love him so much, he (Aguero) is a special person to all of us.” Watch the video of Guardiola’s emotional farewell speech to Sergio Aguero.
Aguero broke Wayne Rooney’s record for most goals scored for a Premier League club on Sunday. Rooney has scored 183 goals for Manchester United. Aguero completed his 10-year stint at Manchester City with 184 goals in the Premier League.
“When I came here the first title was the most important for me, for the club and for me, then Man City started winning more titles, so I am very happy because it is not easy for me to be in a club for 10 years. It is an honor,” Sergio Aguero told Sky Sports.
City has already won the Premier League title, and Carlo Ancelotti was relentless against Everton at the Etihad Stadium. Kevin de Bruyne opened floodgate with a long-range storm in the 11th minute, and just three minutes later Gabriel Jesus doubled the Premier League champion’s lead.
England youngster Phil Foden made it 3–0 after the half-time break and once Guardiola decided to bring Sergio Aguero, it was ahead of Argentina. After hitting the net twice earlier in the game, Aguero had a chance to end his fairy tale with Hatrick, but Joran Pickford managed to save a header.
