One Everton goal destroyed Sheffield United’s dream of Europa League

After Sheffield United fell to a home defeat on Everton they lost all their hopes to play in the Europa League next season.

The game’s only goal was scored by Richarlison, heading brilliantly past Dean Henderson less than a minute into the break.

United manager Chris Wilder appointed an unchanged starting 11 after being very dismissive of the side’s exploits last time out, but was obviously unimpressed again as they failed to generate chances or notably check 18-year-old Jarrad Branthwaite, who made his full Premier League debut in Everton’s defense core.

Teammate Richarlison soon went one better from a far harder chance and playing against his former club, Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit the post late in the first half with a close-range header.

To bring strength and peace from the center of the pitch to a Gylfi Sigurdsson set piece, and eventually to settle the tie, Richarlison performed very well.

While Billy Sharp’s replacement also squandered a rare entrance for the hosts when his touch let him down, David McGoldrick lost his footing and blazed over with the game’s final kick from 16 yards out, but still had a host of bodies to get past the ball.
