North Macedonia beat Germany 2-1 in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The scorers for the winning team were Goran Pandev and Eljif Elmas, who scored either side of an Ilkay Gundogan penalty.
On Wednesday, in World Cup 2022 qualifying Germany lost their first points when they were defeated 2-1 at home by North Macedonia.
Without conceding a goal Joachim Low’s team had won their first two Group J games, but they were shocked by Eljif Elmas’ late goal in Duisburg.
North Macedonia took the lead with a goal from veteran forward Goran Pandev, but Ilkay Gundogan equalized with a controversial penalty for Ezgjan Alioski’s challenge on Leroy Sane.
However, Germany, who have placed 52 places ahead of their opponents in the FIFA rankings, saw substitute Timo Werner miss a golden opportunity shortly before Elmas converted Arijan Ademi’s cutback to give the visitors a famous victory.
