Mohamed Salah tested COVID-19 positive for the second time

Knowing Jurgen Klopp’s men won’t be at full strength after Mohamed Salah has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time and will not be available to face the Foxes on Sunday, Leicester City will travel to Liverpool this weekend.

Since last Friday the Liverpool star has been in self-isolation after contracting the virus while away on international duty with Egypt.

With the national team, the 28-year-old had been training for three days having reportedly attended his brother’s wedding in Cairo last Monday. He was also handed an award by the Egyptian FA at a ceremony in Cairo on Wednesday.

Ahead of his county’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo – which the Pharaoh’s won 3-1 on Tuesday, Salah moved into quarantine in a hotel in El-Gouna upon testing positive for coronavirus.

Egyptian Ministry of Health’s head of the COVID-19 committee, Hossam Hosny, was originally confident the Liverpool man would return a negative result that would allow him to return to his club on Thursday – due to not “showing any symptoms”.

However, the Egypt FA have today confirmed that Salah tested positive again.

A statement on their Facebook page read: “Today, Mohamed Salah, the star of the national team and Liverpool English club, conducted a new swab to detect the COVID-DIGITS virus, but the result was positive.”

“Their case is followed up first by the knowledge of Captain Mohamed Fadl, the member of the five-year committee, head of the team mission returning from Togo and Dr. Mohamed Abu Alala, the elected doctor.”
