Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has expressed his views about midfielder Nicolas Pepe, who has been unsuccessful for the team after transferring from Lille in 2019.
“We have to help him [succeed]. For that to happen, he needs game time, stability in the team. When he has that, he has to show what he can do. We’ll see how the situation develops in the coming months,” said Arteta to Sky Sports.
“I think it’s difficult to judge some players who haven’t played so much in the last two or three weeks, you can’t expect them to be the best on the pitch.”
“Nico tried really hard the whole match [against Newcastle]. He had some really good chances where he could have scored twice or three times.”
“Under normal circumstances, given his skills in those situations, he would put the ball in the net. He couldn’t do it, but I think his contribution to the team’s game was significant.”
Pepe has scored two goals in 11 EPL games this season.
