Lionel Messi will be able to join Barcelona training in pre-season preparations before he signs a new deal with the club. According to Diario Sport, two things are required for this plan to work out. First – Barca would need to authorize the player to train with the squad. Second – Messi would need to take out his medical insurance that would cover pre-season. It has indeed taken place at Copa America.
Messi is now a free agent after his contract with Blaugrana expired at the end of the season in June. Having dedicated his entire football career to Barcelona, Messi was linked to join Manchester City and PSG. however, no contract was confirmed and the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is without a club.
The Argentine is now allowed to train with Barca before signing a new contract. The football news records that Leo is likely to sign a five-year deal with a 50% pay cut. As soon as he signs a new deal, he would then be covered by the club’s medical insurance policy.
Moreover, Barça won’t need to register Messi with the RFEF when he extends his contract paying only €1,200 requested by the RFEF for all new players: both those who were already part of the squad and those who arrive from other teams.
The Catalan club have already paid the first registration fee back in the day, so there is no need to pay the €54,692 registration fee set by La Liga and the RFEF for signings from non-Spanish clubs.
Barcelona is offloading old players to raise funds for their oldest player who has stayed for the longest time at Camp Nou. Barca is targeting to put Griezmann off their books as he is the second player after Messi to earn the highest salary in the team.
When the 34-year-old’s contract at the La Liga giants expired he was busy with international games, representing his national team Argentina at Copa America. He finally achieved silverware internationally defeating Brazil for Copa America Cup.
