Former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has commented on Lionel Messi under the subject of 18-year-old Anssumane Fati. Samuel Eto’o snapped at a reporter after being told that he played with Lionel Messi at Barcelona, with the Cameroonian insisting that the superstar played with him.
The two played alongside each other at Barcelona from 2004-2009. Lionel Messi took his senior career steps at Barca in 2003 making his first-team debut in a friendly in November. However, he made the breakthrough in La Liga in the 2004/05 campaign and was promoted to a side containing the likes of superstars Eto’o, Ronaldinho, Xavi, and Deco.
In the past, Eto’o has spoken highly of Messi’s brilliance also appreciated his performance but lately, in an interview, the Cameroonian was offended. Samuel was asked to give his thoughts on rising star Ansu Fati and what it must be like for the teenager to play with Messi. The reporter asked: “You talk about Messi, what can he [Ansu Fati] learn from Messi? You obviously played with him.”
Eto’o quickly replied as per Daily Mail: “No. He played with me – it is different. Messi played with me. I did not play with Messi. In my time, Messi played with me. It is totally different. It is totally different.”
He went on to express his confidence about Messi staying at the Spanish outfit when reports of his exit were rife. “I can’t imagine Leo with another shirt. It is his club, his home, his love. I do not think that his continuity is due to a question of money. Leo is Barcelona and Barcelona is Messi. I know [president Joan] Laporta is preparing a reliable, interesting project for him.”
The Cameroonian player played for Barcelona from 2004 to 2009 and scored 130 goals in 199 games for the Catalans.
