Messi was seven years old when Argentina last won the prestigious Copa America trophy. Maria’s strike in the final of the tournament brought great joy to Messi and his fans.
Whenever a debate broke out between Messi or any other great player, football experts have always highlighted that the Argentine captain was not able to get the award on the big stage. Messi won everything at club level, both individually and as a team, but missed out on a major title with Argentina in addition to the 2008 Olympic gold medal.
For now, and at least sometimes there will be no one to question Messi’s legacy, as he has finally won his first trophy with the national senior team. Messi wants Argentina to continue the momentum in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Messi was involved in nine of the 12 goals scored by Argentina during the tournament and was also named player of the tournament along with Brazilian Neymar, who scored two goals and scored three.
Argentina secured their 15th continental title with this victory, equaling with Uruguay in most Copa America wins. La Albiceleste is at the top with its neighbors Uruguay, while Brazil is ranked third with 9 wins.
