Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has proscribed racist accusations against teammates on social media.
Defender Axel Tuanzebe was insulted by social media users after the match against Everton (3-3).
“Criticism is part of football, no problem. I’ve been criticized a million times and will definitely be criticized again,” stated McTominay to the official website of the club.
“The problem is when you start believing what other people say, good or bad. You have to minimize all the influence of outside noise, especially at this club. You have to be thick-skinned in football, as you can see from the situation with the racist slurs. It’s a disgrace.”
“Honestly, it was hard for me to see Axel the day after the game. But now I think it’s total chaos and I feel disgusted that one of my brothers, who I grew up with for a very long time, has to experience this.”
“I would never say: “I’m white and Axel is black.” How are we different? We went through the same school, played football together for many years, so it pisses me off.”
“It’s a touchy subject. What’s going on is terrible. It’s a shame.”
