Manchester United unsure of game against Brentford

Manchester United recorded a series of positive COVID-19 results on Sunday morning after Saturday’s win at Norwich City. Manchester United are in talks with the Premier League about whether it is “safe” for Tuesday’s football match at Brentford to continue following the outbreak of the Covid-19 at the Old Trafford club.

The positive reports on Monday were confirmed by PCR tests and operations at their Carrington training ground were halted for 24 hours. The club is concerned about the risk of infection and disruption of training. Brentford boss Thomas Frank said his team was “planning to play the game” against Manchester United.

United said they were talking to the Premier League “given training cancellations and team disruptions, and that the health of players and staff is a priority” and that the team will not travel until a decision is made go. All Manchester United players tested negative ahead of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Norwich, but some tested positive before training on Sunday morning.

Frank’s Brentford echoed Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta demanding more clarity from the Premier League on the Covid-19 delay. Frank said: “I think there should be a significant amount of Covid cases before the game can be canceled, but to be fair, I have little doubt when that’s enough. If we can say very clearly what are the rules for canceling a game, that would be fine.”
