The Manchester United players returned to second place in the English Championship standings in the last game of Sunday’s 25th round program with a home win against Newcastle United 3-1 (1-1).
United took the lead in the 30th minute after a nice solo action by Rashford, but only six minutes later Saint-Maximin equalized with a great shot from 15 meters to 1-1. James returned the advantage to the United side in the 57th minute, crowning Matić’s excellent action, and the final result was set by Bruno Fernandes from a penalty kick in the 75th minute.
Second United now has 49 points, as well as third Leicester City, who earlier on Sunday beat Aston Villa 2-1 (2-0) as guests, while leading Manchester City, who beat Arsenal 1-0 as guests, has 10 points more. Newcastle remained 17th with 25 points, three more than 18th-placed Fulham in the relegation zone.
