Manchester City has officially signed Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish. To secure Grealish’s signature Man City paid a Premier League record fee of £100 million. Grealish has been the club’s captain since 2019 and has spent his entire career at Villa Park.
Jack Grealish scored six league goals adding ten assists across 26 appearances in the 2020-21 season. He earlier signed a new long-term contract but has now moved north to Manchester. The 25-year-old completed a record-breaking move to Premier League champions Manchester City in a reported £100 million deal.
City has smashed the previous British transfer record – set by Manchester United’s acquisition of Paul Pogba in August 2016 – to secure the playmaker, who created 81 chances in the league last season. Grealish has said to the official club website after signing a six-year deal with City: “I am incredibly happy to have joined Manchester City.”
“City is the best team in the country with a manager considered to be the best in the world – it’s a dream come true to be part of this club. Over the past 10 seasons, they have won major trophies consistently. Pep coming here has taken them to the next level and the football this team plays is the most exciting in Europe.”
“To play for Pep and learn from him is going to be special and it’s something any top footballer would want. The facilities are amazing, and I honestly can’t wait to get started, meet everyone and get playing.”
The 25-year-old midfielder joins City from Aston Villa, where he played 213 games in eight seasons, scoring 32 goals and assisting 43.
