Man City and PSG boss comments on UCL semi-finals first leg

Manchester City, after initially falling behind, defeated Paris St Germain (PSG) 2–1 in the first leg of the semi-finals of the Champions League football competition. PSG took the lead in the 15th minute thanks to a goal from captain Marquinhos and he was ahead 1-0 by the time of intermission. City captain Kevin De Bruyne scored an equalizer in the 64th minute, taking advantage of the mistake of goalkeeper Keylor Navas. Riyad Mahrez led City on goal in the 71st minute on a free-kick. Man City boss Pep Guardiola and Pochettino from PSG shared their thoughts after the Champions League semi-finals first leg.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola at BT Sport: “Sometimes you have to rest more and be yourself. The first half is normal – you don’t want to lose the ball [so] don’t play free. We have slightly changed the way we press. I was inactive [earlier on]. We were more aggressive then. It is not easy against Mbappe, Neymar, Di Maria.

He said, “After that, we got the target and we could score another goal. I am very happy with the performance, but we are only halfway there. 90 minutes left, anything can happen.”

“We did not hold the right positions. This club does not have much experience in the semi-finals of this tournament. This will help us. In the second half, we were aggressive and we played very well. Against Dortmund, I accepted and came back today also. We were in the second half, we play well in a certain way – we cannot do otherwise. “

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino at BT Sport: “It was two different stops – we did well in the first half, but a team like City is difficult to eliminate. We deserved to be ahead, but they were better than us and dominated in the second half. There were two goals. But they made more than us, it was half for each team. The two goals are very disappointing. It is hard to accept, but it can happen and it happened in the semi-finals, it hurts so much.”

“It’s hard to explain why they were better, but we were better in the first half. They were difficult to cope with, their physical condition, they were more aggressive. We did not show the energy you need. The red card could do this. Being yellow, it can be red. The second step – you have to believe in football. They have the advantage. “

In another semi-final, Chelsea held Real Madrid 1–1 in the first leg match on Tuesday. The second leg match between City and PSG will be played on May 5, while Chelsea and Real will be played on May 6.
