Lionel Messi will stay in Barcelona if the club brings in a new team, which will include replacing current president Josep Maria Bartomeu, claims Luis Suarez.
“I’m not going to reveal what we talked about at the time out of respect for the relationship I have with Leo, but he has been through a tough and complicated situation,” Suarez told ESPN.
“He wanted to leave, and he didn’t want the club to do so. I’ve been trying to help him, take care of him and distract him a little.”
“I guess they tried to get me out of Messi’s side, and maybe it bothered them that I had a good relationship with Leo. Maybe they needed him too badly not to be with me.”
“It was not a gesture to me that Messi wanted to leave Barcelona. They should have accepted his decision to leave,” added Suarez.
“Messi might be playing for another club, but if he feels relaxed, happy again and another board enters, he will want to keep going at the club.”
“As a friend, if he does better there, I’ll be happy, and if he has to go to another club, I’ll be happy, too.”
