Neymar, Robert Lewandowski, and Sadio Mane among others were on Louis van Gaal radar during his period at Manchester United.
“I needed Robert Lewandowski but I decided to get Gonzalo Higuain instead as that proved to be impossible,” he told FourFourTwo.
“I even talked to the board about Neymar when I had joined. When you’re at United, you’ve got to dream high.”
“In terms of selling jerseys, he was always important for the team, so I needed to get strong wingers. That’s why I managed to get Sadio Mane so Riyad Mahrez too,” he added.
“Thomas Muller has always been on my dream list and I needed N’Golo Kanté in the central midfield. I also wanted to recruit James Milner, who was very old but quite multifunctional and had leadership skills already.”
“I needed Sergio Ramos and Mats Hummels for the defense since ours wasn’t the best to create from the back.”
