Amid the fight over the last couple of seasons, Ruben Loftus-Cheek admits he’d always like to stay at Chelsea to secure a starting spot in the first team.
“I don’t see myself as a young player anymore,” Loftus-Cheek told The Independent.
“Frank came last July so I still talked of signing up for Chelsea before he came in.”
“Coming in simply didn’t change my mind to stay even more. I was happy at Chelsea and my goal was to remain here.”
After suffering Achilles fracture in May 2019, Loftus-Cheek was able to start playing just before the coronavirus outbreak struck football.
“That was a blow to get injured and to be honest I didn’t think I’d be injured for so long. I didn’t think it would take me a year to get back.”
“So when I signed my contract that was in my thoughts. But clearly that was not the way it happened. I’m devoted to Chelsea.”
“I have been here since I was seven, so there was no reason for me to leave Chelsea after the season with Sarri.”
