Liverpool draws with Leeds United in Premier League at Elland Road

Leeds United and Liverpool registered a tie in their Premier League fight as Diego Llorente scored a late equalizer for Leeds to deny Liverpool a place in the top four of the English League.

The Reds began well and in the opening quarter of an hour had three opportunities but Fabinho went on a charging run from his center-half position and Roberto Firmino couldn’t connect properly with his finish.

Leeds’ first chance arrived halfway through the first period to score against Liverpool in Premier League. Kalvin Phillips intercepted a Fabinho pass and slid through Patrick Bamford on goal. However, Alisson Becker was quick off his line to block Bamford’s finish, with the rebound ricocheting off Fabinho for a corner.

Liverpool celebrated their first goal by taking advantage in the 31st minute after Illan Meslier rushed out of goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold latched on to Diogo Jota’s long ball and squared it to Sadio Mane, who slotted into an empty net. In the last ten games, dating back to January, this was his first Premier League goal.

Meslier failed to give a quick second goal to the Reds. the score could have been 2-0 but Jota headed over from Andy Robertson’s corner.

Salah dragged a shot wide following a breakaway after coming off the bench to replace Mane in 71 minute.

Leeds improved after the break and Patrick Bamford hit the crossbar before Llorente headed in his first goal for the club.

During the match, Leeds players flashed their t-shirts with the words “Earn it” next to the Champions League logo and the slogan “Football is for the fans.” The same message was printed on a banner behind one of the goals to protest the new competition – European Super League.
