Liverpool and Southampton lineup in Premier League

Liverpool will be looking to make up ground to boost their odds of qualifying for the top four when they will host Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday evening. In all competitions, the Reds have won only one of their last five games. They face a Saints team aiming to achieve the league double for the third time in their history, having done so in 1960-61 and 2003-04.

Team news

Liverpool lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson; Thiago, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Liverpool’s Premier League match with Manchester United was postponed thus the team had a Weekend off. Nat Phillips is named in Liverpool’s starting XI after he is back from injury.

On Saturday for three attacking spots Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, and Diogo Jota are likely to compete.

Southampton lineup: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Salisu; Walcott, Diallo, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Redmond, Adams

Danny Ings will not appear this season and he is unlikely to play against his former club.

Southampton has successfully reversed Jannik Vestergaard’s red card from last week’s draw with Leicester.

Takumi Minamino is also uncertain to play against his parent club, Liverpool.

If Ryan Bertrand is ruled out for the away match, Jack Stephens will be called upon once more at left-back.

Southampton held a 1-1 draw with Leicester City in the last game to snap a three-game losing run but they have already lost eight of their last nine league away matches. In their last four visits to Anfield, they have struggled to score conceding 10 goals in the process. Fortunately for them, Liverpool’s goal-scoring record in 2021 has been abysmal.

This season only Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion have conceded more goals than Southampton, who have conceded at least once in six of their last eight Premier League home games.

Since the turn of the year both defenses have been weak so if Klopp’s backline is to be broken this weekend, Adams and Redmond, in the absence of Ings, would have to step up to provide a much-needed challenge going forward for the Saints.

We expect the hosts to win a hard-fought match at Anfield on Saturday and if the Reds are to qualify for the Champions League, they cannot afford to lose any more points

Our Prediction: Liverpool 2 – 1 Southampton
