It was a bizarre day for Barcelona and Lionel Messi fans after the football news flashed that the Argentine is not staying at Camp Nou. Earlier when there was speculation on Messi’s future, Manchester City and PSG were highly linked to acquiring his signature. Man City coach Pep has stated Messi is not in their plans.
Now Leo is no more a Barca player, Manchester City is not considering an option to buy the Argentine star striker. The Manchester club simply cannot afford Messi’s wages, claims Mundo Deportivo. It is now reported that PSG is progressing direct talks with the 34-year-old.
Manchester City has recently announced the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a fee of 100 million pounds and is eager to get Harry Kane from Tottenham.
The City manager Pep Guardiola has stated that Lionel Messi is “not in the club’s thoughts” this summer, apparently giving Paris Saint-Germain a clear run at the free agent.
With the Catalan giants unable to re-sign the attacker due to “financial and structural obstacles” Messi’s departure from Barcelona was confirmed on Thursday night. Guardiola has admitted that the Messi news surprised the Citizens, and the Spaniard has all but ruled out signing the 34-year-old this summer.
“We spent £40m on Jack Grealish. £100m we paid and £60m we won (from transfers). And he will wear the number 10. We were convinced by Grealish and convinced Leo would stay at Barca. Right now he (Messi) is not in our thoughts,” Guardiola told reporters according to Manchester Evening News.
“Day by day, game by game, he made something unique. All I can say is thank you so much to bring Barcelona to another level, to allow Barcelona to dominate the world for a decade with him and his mates. I wish him the best for the rest of his career.”
