Amid interest from PSG, Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has explained about forward Lionel Messi’s expiring contract situation.
“Barcelona should be able to make a good offer, which Messi will accept. It depends on the club. I will accept any response from Messi, but he needs to know the terms of the offer, we need to hurry up,” quotes Laporta ESPN.
“Making a convincing offer becomes more and more difficult as time goes on. Messi is now free to negotiate with other clubs and Barca still have no president.”
“When clubs like PSG publicly announce plans to sign Messi, it is disrespectful to Barça. And we are hearing this from a club-state that is bending the rules. We cannot allow clubs and states the luxury of destabilising other clubs.”
“We will have to talk to UEFA and FIFA to avoid such actions. PSG must refrain [from talking about Messi]. It is inappropriate when another club is talking about him. At the moment, there is no president who can respond to this disrespect.”
