The Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy received a medical at Chelsea on Tuesday, and according to Blues manager Lampard the 28-year-old is expected to complete his transfer soon.
Frank Lampard has said Edouard Mendy is scheduled to complete his long-anticipated move to Chelsea on Tuesday.
“Mendy’s getting a medical as we talked, subject to that being OK later on so he’ll become our player at that stage,” Lampard said.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled for form and confidence, now Mendy’s arrival will be a competition for the goalkeeper.
The arrival of Mendy would bring the £72million Spain star Kepa under tremendous pressure, who made his latest pivotal error in Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League.
“With Mendy coming in its more rivalry, so any response would have to be optimistic about that from Kepa.”
“Mendy is going to force himself to try to play in this squad when he comes on; we know that. We realize the expectations that a goalkeeper in this squad deserves, but we have to push for that.”
