Valencia failed to score and ended up in a goalless draw with title-chasing Real Sociedad despite the hosts seeing red in the second half. Real Sociedad squared off against a Valencia side sat in the depths of mid-table looking to reclaim their place at the top of La Liga. And the opening period reflected the contrasting fortunes this season, with Sociedad maintaining possession well, and pressing for the opener, without creating a clear-cut chance.
The football match fell into a more evenly-matched tempo as the half progressed, yet chances were increasingly hard to come by for both sides keeping them level by half time. With the only difference being Valencia’s added attacking intent the second half saw much of the same as the first. They would have felt confident in their pursuit of the winner with the hosts having scored 17 of their 19 La Liga goals in the second half ahead of this game.
It became clear that Imanol Alguacil wanted to change up the game, and opted to introduce Mikel Oyarzabal in the hope that the midfielder would add a creative spark. However, the change had little effect on the game and the task only increased for the hosts when Aritz Elustondo was shown a straight red card after committing a needless foul with 25 minutes remaining on the clock.
The visitors failed to find a winner which leaves them right in the middle of the table in spite of an extra man and six minutes of added time. As for Sociedad, the San Sebastian side moved up to second – just one point behind the leaders. Check out football highlights of the La Liga game as Valencia draw with Real Sociedad.
