Getafe played out a goalless draw against Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish league La Liga, continuing Athletic Bilbao’s unbeaten streak for the seventh football match in a row. Athletic Bilbao has drawn for the fifth time and is ranked ninth after 16 matches. The team last won a league match against Villarreal in October.
Even though the match against Getafe ended in a draw, Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simeone made some good defences to keep Getafe from taking the lead. Athletic Bilbao has failed to score in four of their five matches. Getafe, on the other hand, started the season with seven consecutive losses but later improved. Getafe has lost just one of their last six league matches and has won two in a row at home.
Getafe coach Quique Sanchez Flores was sent off after the final whistle for complaining to the referee. Quique protested a foul called by Figueroa Vázquez and was immediately sent to the locker room by the referee. A decision, the expulsion, that upset the coach, who had to be calmed down by his assistants.
Already in the mixed zone, once the meeting was over, Sánchez Flores explained himself and apologized for the image that he had given in the band: “I made a quick comment and the second they told me ‘expelled’ and there I felt bad. It is something that I must contain, I regret that it happened like this. Feeling expelled in a game with friction I have felt unprotected. I have not controlled my anger. It seemed unfair to me. It was impossible to dialogue.”
“I would like to talk about the game. When you expel someone it has to be a very punishable action. It is almost better to turn the page and talk about the game,” said Sanchez Flores as he wanted to settle.
