After a 2-1 loss in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Thursday, Koke claims that Atletico Madrid was just second-best to RB Leipzig.
Only for Atletico to normalize with a Joao Felix penalty 20 minutes later, Leipzig took the lead after 50 minutes with a fantastic team goal made by Dani Olmo.
While a tight game on the scoresheet, Koke acknowledged that Leipzig were a deserving winner in the night as they were stronger than Atletico in any aspect of the game.
“They were stronger, they didn’t allow us to equal their speed,” Koke told Movistar, via Goal.
“They’ve always been better, they’ve got more possession. They’ve become stronger, quicker, and more powerful. If they’re great, you’re able to send more of the material, and if things don’t turn out, you have to congratulate and reflect on your opponent.”
“When we were better, at 1-1, their second goal came.”
“In the field, there are moments where you’re stronger and there are worse. Coldly, as we analyze the game, we’ll know when we’ve lost but what we’ve missed. We’ll have to stand up and start again next season.”
“You ’re hurt and disappointed when you lose. It’s a different competition, for a single game, so you could take the Champions League in three games.”
“We’ve had bad luck with the second game, that’s how it is. We’ve been really optimistic about the Champions League, so we’ve had to get up like we always do.”
